چکیده

This article proposes a new theory for predicting the crack bridging performance of random short fibers involved in cementitious composites. The current theoretical model for estimating crack bridging performance of Random Short Fiber Reinforced Cement Composites (RSFRCC) under tension is limited to specific constituent properties: friction dominant fiber-matrix interface and complete fiber pull-out from matrix without rupture. The new theory extends this model by accounting for two often encountered features in practice: fiber strength reduction and rupture in composites and chemical bond dominant fiber/matrix interface. The new theory was verified to capture important characteristics in bridging performance in comparison with composite tensile test data. As a result, the new theory forms an important foundation for developing high performance RSFRCC. 1Kajima Technical Research Institute, 2-19-1 Tobitakyu, Chofu-shi, Tokyo 182, Japan). 2Prof. and Dir., ACE-MRL, Dept. of Civ. and Envir. A Simplified Micromechanical Model of Compressive Strength of Fiber-Reinforced Cementitious Composites

A micromechanical model is constructed for the compressive strength of fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (FRCs). This model is based on the classical models of compressive failure of brittle solids in which sliding microcracks induce wing-crack growth under compression loads. The concept of increased microcrack sliding resistance and wing-crack growth retardation associated with fiber br...

Strength and Toughness of Reinforced Concrete with Coated Steel Fibers

The effect of zinc phosphate (ZP) and zinc calcium phosphate (ZCP) coatings on the reinforcing mechanisms of smooth steel fiber in cementitious matrix have been studied. The results of pull out tests illustrated that by coating smooth steel fiber the pull-out load may be increased up to 100%. The effect of zinc phosphate coating on interface bonding was more than zinc-calcium phosphate coating....

Fiber-Bridging Constitutive Law of Engineered Cementitious Composites

This paper is on modeling and measuring fiber-bridging constitutive law of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC), a high performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composite featuring high tensile ductility. Fiber-bridging constitutive law plays an important role in the multiple cracking behavior of ECC. Therefore, proper control of fiberbridging behavior through tailoring material microstruc...

Inclined Fiber Pullout from a Cementitious Matrix: A Numerical Study

It is well known that fibers improve the performance of cementitious composites by acting as bridging ligaments in cracks. Such bridging behavior is often studied through fiber pullout tests. The relation between the pullout force vs. slip end displacement is characteristic of the fiber-matrix interface. However, such a relation varies significantly with the fiber inclination angle. In the curr...

Effect of inclination angle on fiber rupture load in fiber reinforced cementitious composites

A model has been formulated for analyzing the influence of fiber inclination angle on its rupture load in fiber reinforced cementitious composite. As a stiff fiber is pulled with an angle to the direction of pulling, the fiber rupture load decreases compared to the case with zero inclination angles. This phenomenon is called fiber apparent strength (defined as rupture load divided by fiber cros...
